I Like How You Think Kid

I love participating in ScrapFreak's Freaky Friday challenges. They are always the perfect push for me to get memories to paper. The Storytelling Challenge this month was In Their Words.  I just had to document this conversation Bennet and I had on Easter. So very typical!

10 Things on Thursday

1. I have been just exhausted this week. Can I blame the heat?
2. Rented this movie last weekend. Robert Downey Jr. really is a fantastic actor.

3. Scout is VERY excited for the new Spiderman movie.
4. Bennet Snapshot of the Week: Nick took her shopping for some shorts and pajamas this week. Not only did she come up with new threads, but they went out for pizza and frozen yogurt too!
5. Scout Snapshot of the Week: She went on a field trip to the grocery store this week. The same store we've been going to since she was a baby. But this week she got to see in the back room and that was just AWESOME!
6.  Ellie Snapshot of the Week:  It's been in the 90's the last two days but she still insists on sleeping with EVERY blanket and stuffed animal in her crib. And we don't have central air. Weird kid.
7. Cancer reared its ugly head this week. My Dad lost a very good lifelong friend and one of my dear friends received a less-than-glowing diagnosis for her Mom. Such a crappy disease!
8.  I made these 4th of July skirts for my girls and niece Molly. I made the little dress for my niece Morgan. I bought the fabric LAST summer! I'm proud that I not only remembered that I had the fabric but that I knew where it was stored.
9.  Starting this book this weekend. I think.

10. Weekend plans. Thinking of heading to the cabin since we haven't been since Memorial Day.

Woo Hoo Wednesday - June 20

A week or so ago Bennet came up to me with an idea for our Woo Hoo Wednesday project/activity. It made me so happy that she came up with an idea all on her own. And that she was genuinely excited about it. Her idea? SOCK PUPPETS! The girl is a genius!

Supplies:
Tubes Socks (Dollar Tree)
Giant Googly Eyes
Yarn
Felt
Cardboard (for the mouth)
Hot Glue Gun

Bennet getting her doggie's hair ready. I just love her tongue stuck out. Very serious work.

I did alot of the assembly due to the hot glue gun (and have the blisters to prove it!) but the girls picked out the colors and overall theme. Here is Bennet's finished dog.

Scout made Miss Piggy. She decided to use a marker and color the sleeve and her arm.

Ellie made a very scaled down version of Kermit to accompany Miss Piggy.

Bennet became obsessed with her puppet. She pretty much wore it ALL day Thursday. It was on when I dropped her off for Summer School in the morning. It was on when I picked her up at lunch. She did a little show for the YWCA staff when she got there in the afternoon. The girl is all about commitment to her craft.

She overheard me telling Nick that I hope she doesn't get into ventriloquy because those puppets creep me out. Of course she's now asking,"Can I see what those creepy puppets are Mom? I bet I'd like them." Can't you just picture her with a ventriloquist doll? So help me.

This is so You

Ellie is a riot. She goes full throttle from the moment she wakes up until the moment her head hits the pillow. And man can her attitude spin on a dime! One second she is a giggling goofball, the next a crankpot and then back to sunshine again in a matter of seconds. She really does keep us on our toes. I don't know if it's her age or simply her personality, but her antics find me grinning from ear-to-ear on a daily basis. She is just so darn cute!

Ready to Pop!

Starting the week off with more pregnancy layouts.

TITLE: Starting to Pop
My 13 week belly shot.

TITLE: A Good Soak
I have always loved taking baths. But when I'm pregnant they become a nightly thing, especially in the 1st and 3rd trimester. A MUST at the end of the day!

10 Things on Thursday

1. Nick and I have been watching the first season of White Collar. Love that show. We've seen the more current seasons, but we are enjoying watching the earlier ones.
2. Finished this book. It is a page turner. A 'what-is-going-to-happen-next' thrill ride. WOW! Highly recommend.
3. Now I'm reading this. It's written by a Wisconsin author and takes place in Milwaukee which is kind of fun.

4. Bennet Snapshot of the Week: Every Friday is she goes to an area pool with the YWCA. She is in heaven. Last week when she returned from the pool she proudly told me that she can swim now. REALLY swim Mom! I can't wait to see it in person.
5. Scout Snapshot of the Week: She insists on wearing flannel pjs when it's 90 degrees in the house. She puts on nightly talent shows with a minimum of 3 made up songs. She has been extra sweet to her sister Ellie. Just wanting to play with her and help her participate.
6.  Ellie Snapshot of the Week:  This girl makes me laugh. Her vocabulary is just doubling by the day. The sentences she comes up with just leave me shaking my head and smiling.  Where does she come up with this stuff?
7. Firming up dates for Camp G&G 2012. My AWESOME parents are taking all 3 girls this year. I'm not going to lie- I am bursting with excitement at the thought of an adult weekend for Nick and me somewhere.
8.  I made this dress for Scout. I had this tutorial pinned in Pinterest. I am on a BIG blue and red kick right now from fabric to scrapbooking. My pregnancy album is heavy on these colors too!

9.  Father's Day Cards- Found this card idea on Etsy and put my own twist on it.

10. Weekend plans include a co-workers baby shower, laundry (always) and perhaps a camp out in the backyard depending on weather.

WooHoo Wednesday (June 13) -Father's Day Craft

Every year I try to have the girls make something for Nick for Father's Day. I usually start by asking, "What do you think Dad would like? What things does he like?" The first year I asked this they responded with "Tissues"so he got an fancy embellished pink kleenex holder. Another year they responded with "Zombies" so we made him an ugly zombie doll.

This year they responded with, "Well- Dad does drink alot of water in his office." They would know. They are always in there sneaking a sip. Based on that we made him a set of homemade coasters.

Ellie's little hand.
Bennet drew him a picture of Diablo. Nick's been playing a lot of Diablo 3 lately. Bennet helps him pick out is weapons, etc.
Scout wrote 'HULK'. Big surprise right?
I coated them generously with ModPodge and am hoping they last for at least 2 uses. If I did it again I would have the kids use either crayons or permanent markers. The water-based markers smeared quite a bit when I applied the top coat.

Heart Beat

Sharing some more layouts that I made for my pregnancy album. I'm sticking with a white card stock background and a lot of red, blue, yellow and gray. Clean and simple with an emphasis on journaling.

Scout at School

I am participating in the ScrapFreak Summer Points Challenge.  (Still time to join us!) It is just the push I needed to make spending time in my studio a priority. Plus- my mojo is back which is an added bonus.

I've been making a bunch of layouts for Scout's album about her year in 4K at the YWCA.

TITLE: End of a Chapter
Inspired by this layout by Megan Starner

TITLE: Top Notch Teacher
I used the "Teachers" tab to make the patterned paper grouping look like a file folder. I fussy cut the little apple from some patterned paper and boosted it up on a foam dot.
TITLE: The Very Best of Friends
Scout and Cassidy have been besties since she stared at the YWCA in 2010. I took this picture in October and originally had it printed in color. The mix of bright red, pink, green and blue were proving difficult to work with. LIGHTBULB! Print it in black & white. Problem solved!

WooHoo Wednesday (June 6)

Last WooHoo Wednesday we made homemade sidewalk chalk paint. It was really cheap and simple. We followed this recipe.

We made enough to have 2 tins of paints.

Bennet was all about the paint splatter. With a fair amount of splatter ending up in her hair.
I don't think we've ever done a project that hasn't gone from somewhat clean and organized to full on MESS in a matter of minutes. This was no exception. It wasn't long before Scout decided that brushes were for amateurs and the best painting implement was her hands and feet. We took one muffin tin and poured it into a rectangular pan.

 My contribution to the project.
After they were sufficiently covered from head to toe in sidewalk chalk I quickly ushered all three of them into the shower- TOGETHER! I think that may have been their favorite part of the activity.  I wish I would have recorded the shrieks of glee and the contagious laughter that came from that little stall. They were having all together too much fun! The sweet sounds of sisterhood!

Then There Were 4

Nick, Bennet, Scout, Ellie and I are proud to announce the addition of #4 this coming November. We are so excited!

I'm due on my birthday 11/21/12 (that's alot of 1's and 2's).

I was looking for a fun and different way to let Nick know about our upcoming addition. My friend Jeni suggested a scrapbook page. I can't believe I didn't think of it. How perfect right?

I made this layout and then walked up to Nick and asked his opinion of it :) I put the girls names and birth dates on the pink hearts and then Mitten's due date on the yellow heart. The second layout describes his reaction.

Snow?

Summer is in full swing. The grass is green and flowers are blooming, but we live in Wisconsin and eventually (hopefully in LATE November) the white stuff will return.

I have a couple layouts to share that feature photos from last winter. Both designs I lifted from layouts of my own that I did a couple of years ago.

TITLE: Winter Wonder.
I loved this owl hat. I am so glad that Ellie finally decided to wear it. She actually wore it around the house all day last Saturday. Crazy kid.

10 Things on Thursday

1. One of my favorite TV shows, Burn Notice, returns next week!
2. Finished this beast of a book. Excellent story and amazing characters. Can't wait to watch the mini-series.
3. Moved onto this book. I have enjoyed Seth Grahame-Smith's other books so fingers crossed that I'll like this one as well.
4. Bennet Snapshot of the Week: Last weekend I heard her singing the song "Smelly Cat" from the TV show Friends. My heart burst with pride. "smelly cat, smelly cat what are they feeding you?"
5. Scout Snapshot of the Week: Her vocabulary is really taking off. I love when she asks how to spell something and says "Is that a lowercase or a capital?". Last night she asked to give
me a hug and kiss "because I didn't get to it earlier".
6.  Ellie Snapshot of the Week:  Ellie came down with a little cough last Thursday. She was a little puny on Monday so I took her to the walk in clinic. They tested her for pertussis/whooping cough. THANK goodness it came back negative. Being quarantined for 5 days was not on the schedule!
7. Watched 'The Muppets' with the girls again last weekend. Such a cute movie. I know I'm not the only one who teared up at the end when Kermit starts singing 'Rainbow Connection'.
8.  Finished sewing 4th of July skirts for my girls and nieces Molly and Morgan. They turned out so cute! Will post a photo soon
9.  I made this skirt for Bennet. I had this tutorial pinned in Pinterest. I used a lightweight denim for the top and a bunch of my fabric scraps to create the banner.  She keeps asking for "long" skirts so I oblige.

10. We have zero plans for the weekend. Everyone is home. Hoping to spend time outside as a family and catch up on organizing the house!

WooHoo Wednesday (May 30)

Last week we had a mellow WooHoo Wednesday. I wasn't feeling 100% so the three girls and I just cozied up on the couch and watched a movie. I have to admit that sometimes after a long day of work the best thing is just relaxing with my kids! However, we do have 2 different options on the slate for tonight so we'll see what we end up doing.

Today was the first Camp Day at the YWCA. Each Wednesday the kids get some special time outside with fun stations that focus on science, arts & crafts and physical activity. Bennet's age group will start their camp next week.

Scout making homemade ice cream. She has on her ice cream patterned dress today- how did she know?

Ellie making a bubble painting. I'm impressed that she didn't suck the soap in :)

Out

I've been wanted to jump on the hexagon bandwagon for awhile and this was the perfect opportunity!  I was inspired by this layout by Celeste Smith. Once again I went to my scrap pile and pulled papers from there. I mounted a couple on foam dots for added height.

This photo is from last Easter. Ellie was so tuckered she actually asked to go take a nap. I think she was asleep before her head hit the pillow.
